Dad with Dementia Sings: VOLARE!

WONDERFUL SING-A-LONG + LYRICS + VIDEO:

Ted McDermott sings to outwit his dementia. He journeys with son Simon and their dashcam, making famously beautiful music together. Get your smile ready and join in.

To update: Ted is still home, although his condition has declined, according to his son Simon. However, the pair were able to produce two albums while the SongAMinute Man was still singing. "He is still happy, and that's what's important" Ted's son said in a Facebook post in Autumn 2021. Lyrics:

Volare (To fly), oh oh,
E cantare (To sing), oh oh oh oh.

Lyrics to sing-a-long (with translation in italics):

Sometimes the world is a valley of heartaches and tears,
And in the hustle and bustle, no sunshine appears,
But you and I have our love always there to remind us,
There is a way we can leave all the shadows behind us.

Volare, oh, oh!
Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Let's fly way up in the clouds,
Away from the maddening crowds,

We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of,
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind.
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind,
Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find.

Volare, oh, oh!
Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
No wonder my happy heart sings,
Your love has given me wings.

Volare (To fly), oh oh!
E cantare (to sing), oh oh oh oh!
Nel blu, dipinto di blu (In the blue, painted in the blue),
Felice di stare lassù (I am happy to be above).

E volavo, volavo felice, (And I flew, flew happy)
piu in alto del sole ed ancora piu sù, (Higher the sun and even higher)
Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiù, (While the world disappeared slowly, Far away down)
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me. (A sweet music played only for me).

Volare, oh oh
E cantare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings,
Your love has given me wings.

Nel blu, dipinto di blu,
Felice di stare lassù.

No wonder my happy heart sings,
Your love has given me wings,
Your love has given me wings.
